Aubrey R. Cole, 91, passed away on Wednesday February 3, 2016. Funeral services will be 10:30a.m., Saturday February 6, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1165 Minter Lane with Rev. Mike Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the funeral home. Aubrey was born in Aspermont, TX on August 9, 1924 to the late Rev. F.R. Cole and Mary Shelton Cole. He graduated from high school and attended Hardin Simmons University.

 Aubrey joined the U.S. Marine Corps proudly serving our country in the 4th Marine Division as a radio operator in a forward observer team. He served in WWII and was in combat in Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. Aubrey was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat “V”, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation with Bronze Star for a second award, the Navy Unit Citation, the American Campaign, the Asiatic Pacific with three Battle Stars, and the WWII Victory Medal.

Aubrey married Nadine Brimberry on July 19, 1946 in Abilene. He was self-employed running Regal Auto Sales as an automobile dealer and was previously a sales manager for Fred Hughes Buick for many years. Aubrey was a former bowler and was a member of the Abilene Bowling Assn. “Hall of Fame”; sang with the Abilene Memory Men for 8 years; a former Kiwanian; and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1951 and active on various committees at his church. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Nadine in 2011; a brother, Maurice G. Cole; and a sister, Feddy Ruth Button. Survivors include his daughter, Lynette O’Neal and husband, Robert of Abilene; a son, Ray Cole, Jr. and wife, Carol of Keller, TX; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
